In this portfolio, the journey through the different realms of privacy and surveillance philosophy underscores the consistent themes across various mediums and the interplay between autonomy, society, and technological advances. From the intimacy of college living and how privacy and intimacy interact with each other to the societal implications in The Dark Knight and Barthes’ use of photography to capture and invade people, the definition of privacy is beyond the ability of others to access personal information. Still, it is a spectrum that encompasses human interactions within society. As I took my solitary walk to escape my captivation by surveillance methods, I could further reflect on the importance of protecting individuality and autonomy. The overall journey I have been through this semester has highlighted the importance of navigating the complexity of privacy in a dynamic world shaped by the tradeoffs of giving information and the increasing dependence on evolving technologies.
